Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was hospitalized. There, the 80-year-old politician underwent clinical treatment due to a diagnosis of “emotional burnout.”

According to the German agency, Gerhard Schröder's personal physician diagnosed him with “severe burnout syndrome with typical signs of deep exhaustion and acute lack of energy.”

The doctor also noted the “reduced emotional stability” of the former German Chancellor's mental health.

After this, Schröder, on the advice of a doctor, sought medical help in one of the hospitals.

Schröder's lawyer Hans-Peter Huber confirmed these facts to journalists. On behalf of the family, he asked the public to respect Schröder's privacy.

It is worth noting that speculation on the health of 80-year-old Gerhard Schröder arose after he canceled his participation in the work of the Schwerin parliamentary commission investigating the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in mid-January 2025. In particular, the former German Chancellor was supposed to give his testimony on this gas pipeline.

At the same time, Schroeder's doctor wrote in a statement that Schroeder “is neither now nor in the foreseeable future able to cope with the physical and psychological stress of a long – especially public – interrogation by the Investigative Committee.” According to the doctor, this interrogation “will further worsen the patient's health and, in the worst case, lead to its normal functioning.”
