Former coach of the Ukrainian national football team Andriy Shevchenko shared his expectations from the decisive Euro 2024 qualifying match against Italy.
In an interview with the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, he said that “for Ukraine this is much more than just a match.”
— For Ukraine this is a very important match, even more than just a game for us. We have nothing to lose this evening, and therefore we must not relax. To pass the qualification would mean giving joy to people,” Shevchenko said.
Despite the fact that the nominal home game will take place in Leverkusen, Germany, Shevchenko expects a full stadium.

He noted that there is a generational change in the team and the Ukrainian national team has good players such as Mudrik, Sudakov and Tsygankov. According to Shevchenko, Rebrov did an excellent job in a very difficult situation, bringing his philosophy.
At the same time, he said that qualification means a lot for Italians, but Ukrainians are ready to prove themselves. Shevchenko said he was afraid of the entire Italian team, not individual players.
— Even Luciano Spalletti is highly motivated. “I respect Luciano very much, he is a wonderful coach, one of the best, and he certainly wants to take Italy to the top after past disappointments,” Shevchenko said.
The Ukraine-Italy match will take place on Monday, November 20 in Leverkusen, Germany, at the BayArena stadium. A direct ticket to the Euro 2024 finals will be at stake in the meeting.
Let us remind you that the UAF has published an application for the decisive qualifying match for Euro 2024 against the Italian team. Sergei Rebrov's coaching staff eliminated three players.
