For the first time in history: Ukraine won gold in the mixed relay at the IBU Junior Cup

The Ukrainian biathlon team won the IBU Junior Cup mixed relay for the first time in its history.

This happened during the second stage of the season in the Italian Ridnau-val-Ridanna on Friday, December 15th.

Gold in the relay race was won by Stepan Kinash, Vladislav Chikhar, Elena Gorodnaya and Alexandra Merkushina.

Kinash started the relay first, took the lead and managed to pass the baton to his teammate first. Chikhar showed the best net time among all partners and retained the team lead.

The third to run the relay was Merkushina, and the last to start was Gorodnaya, who used three additional rounds in the prone stage, but avoided a penalty loop. While standing she shot without errors.

As a result, Ukraine finished in first place with a handicap of 14 seconds from Germany. Bronze went to the Italians.

Note that for Ukraine this is the first ever victory in this discipline at the IBU Junior Cup.
