Following private state-owned banks in Turkey, they will refuse to serve Mir cards

Russians in Turkey will not be able to use Mir cards. Previously, they were no longer served by private credit organizations.

Such restrictions for representatives of infidels are due to the fact that the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury announced sanctions. They will cover financial institutions using the “mer” payment system.

Sanctions were imposed on the head of the Russian national payment card system, Vladimir Komletov.

Can't withdraw cash

Russians had trouble withdrawing cash in Turkey on September 19th. Two powerful private tanks, Isbank and Denizbank, stopped working with them.

Three state-owned banks reported about the suspension of services to the Russians. It is not yet known which institutions are mentioned.

Turkish banks have changed their position

Recep Erdogan in met with Vladimir Putin in August. The Turkish leader assured that five of the country's banks would work with Russia's payment system to supposedly ease the rest for tourists.

However, on September 15, the United States and the European Union increased pressure on Turkey because of Ankara's actions. As a result, banks did not want to take risks and stop working with the “mer” payment system.
