The Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia (UNAS) threatens to block border crossings from the Slovak side for Ukrainian carriers.
This is stated in a letter from the union to the country's Ministry of Transport.
Carriers ask the agency to begin cooperation with the European Commission and demand the return of the issuance of commercial permits for transportation within the European Union.

— Slovak freight transport is on its knees. As you can see, Polish carriers are blocking their borders because they have the same problem as our carriers,” the letter says.
UNAS claims that the Slovak Ministry of Transport has not paid attention to freight transport for a long time and is ignoring the problem.
UNAS Chairman Stanislav Skala said that if the European Transport Commission does not comply with the demands, they will immediately support the strike of Polish carriers and begin to block border crossings for Ukrainian carriers.
Teraz reported that due to an increase in freight traffic on the night of Sunday, November 12, freight traffic on the eastern border of Slovakia was limited. Queues of cars lined up not only in front of the Vyshne Nemeckie border crossing, but also in the surrounding areas.
Last week, members of the Slovak Road Transport Association (ČESMAD) also called for the abolition of the transport visa-free regime for Ukraine.
The Ministry of Transport of Slovakia agreed that the increase in the number of transportation within the EU by Ukrainian carriers “negatively affects the economy of the European Union.” The department promised that in early December they would propose to Brussels to reconsider the EU decision, according to which permits are not required until June 30, 2024.
