Focus on Ukraine: a security conference starts in Munich, where Zelensky will speak

Today, February 16, the Munich Security Conference starts. About 50 world leaders are expected to visit, including Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The governments of Russia and Iran are not invited.

The Munich Security Conference 2024 will take place from 16 to 18 February at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich. This will be the anniversary, 60th meeting.

Who will speak at the Munich Security Conference

On the first day of the Munich conference the speakers will be: US Vice President Kamala Harris, John Kerry — US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs, First Lady of Israel Michal Herzog, Filippo Grandi — UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Evgenia Kravchuk — Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as well as a number of ministers, heads of government of participating states

From 09:30 to 10:00 February 17 the President of Ukraine will personally speak Vladimir Zelensky. Note that the President has already spoken at the 2023 conference, but in an online format.

From 10:00 to 10:45, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia Kai Kallas and US Senator from the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Pete Ricketts are scheduled to speak.

From 11:15 to 12:00, speeches are scheduled by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte and the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Stjore.

Ukraine — among the main topics of the Munich Conference

The future of Ukraine and transatlantic security will be discussed on the second day, Saturday, February 17, after the speech of President Vladimir Zelensky. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and US Senator Pete Ricketts will take part in this discussion.

War in Israel

By the evening of February 17 — from 20:00 to 20:30 (local time) — Israeli President Isaac Herzog will speak at the discussion panel Towards Stability and Peace in the Middle East: Israel's Vision. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh will also attend the conference.
