Chelsea came to the tournament with ambitions, and now there are two steps left to the trophy. The team started with a victory over Los Angeles (2:0), but sensationally lost to Flamengo (1:3). In the final match of the group, Chelsea beat Esperance (3:0) and took second place.
In the 1/8 finals, the Londoners played a difficult match with Benfica, which was interrupted due to bad weather. Regular time ended in a 1:1 draw, and in overtime, Chelsea snatched a victory – 4:1. In the quarterfinals against Palmeiras, the “blues” controlled the game, but won only in the 83rd minute – 2:1. This match will be the third for Chelsea against Brazilian clubs in the tournament, with one win and one defeat so far.
Fluminense are the real sensation of the tournament. Having reached the semi-finals, the team makes good use of its strengths, especially in defense. In the group stage, Fluminense took second place, behind Borussia Dortmund, but did not lose a single match.
The victory over Inter (2:0) was a surprise, especially considering the difficulties of the European team with a new coach. In the quarterfinals, Fluminense was better than Al-Hilal (2:1), thanks to the accurate implementation of moments.
This is the first meeting between the teams. Chelsea are considered the favorites, and Fluminense are the only team that can prevent the European final. It is expected to be a low-scoring, but interesting game.
