Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin believes that Ukraine will make a request for NATO membership in the future. However, now is not the time for the question of joining the Alliance, the main thing is to end the war with Russia.
According to Austin, the main thing now is that President Putin wants to end the war. It is he who should do this, because the head of the Kremlin started it.

US Secretary of Defense about this said after a meeting of the International Coordination Group for the Defense of Ukraine. More than 40 heads of the Ministry of Defense of different countries gathered at the Ramstein base in Germany.
This (joining NATO – Channel 24) will be a sovereign decision of Ukraine. I think that NATO will always follow the principles of the open door policy. I don't want to speculate about what might happen. I believe that in the future, if there is an opportunity, Ukraine will again ask for NATO membership. Austin emphasized.
The number one task now is the very end of the war. Vladimir Putin must decide on de-escalation and sit down at the negotiating table.
