The details of the terrible crime were told by the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klimenko.
According to him, before the murder, 16-year-old Elizaveta Golovnya celebrated the beginning of the new school year with classmates. The schoolgirl was in 11th grade and was the only child in the family.

On that tragic night, the girl was returning home. On September 5, around midnight, a local 46-year-old man saw her and began to follow her. The attacker covered the victim's mouth and forcibly dragged her into an abandoned area. Afterwards he raped and strangled Elizabeth.
Igor Klimenko noted that since the discovery of the girl’s body, more than 150 police officers have been involved in solving the case. They interviewed almost all city residents, collected data from all surveillance cameras, examined more than a thousand cars, and checked about 600 people.
Law enforcement officers detained a suspect in the brutal massacre on September 24. The man was informed of suspicion of premeditated murder combined with rape. He faces from 10 years in prison to life imprisonment.
The suspect turned out to be a 46-year-old father of five children. His youngest child is 5 years old, and the oldest is the same age as the deceased.
Klimenko noted that after committing the crime, the man tried to hide from justice abroad in the hope that the search would subsequently subside. The criminal was found on the 18th day of the search. An examination confirmed his guilt, and the detainee himself admitted to committing the crime.
