Ukraine continues to ask international partners to provide us with fighter jets. This was once again emphasized by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a recent interview, the head of state said that he was very grateful for the visit of Joe Biden, which he made at the end of February. At the same time, Zelensky stressed that providing Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets could change the course of the war that Russia unleashed.
Zelensky awaits decision on aircraft
As for Biden's visit, Zelensky considers it an important signal for the whole world. According to the head of state, this shows that the United States supports Ukraine and believes that we will win.
Regarding the issue related to the American F-16 fighters, Zelensky considers it difficult. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine is waiting to be accepted.
We really need this and are very appealing to the president so that they can start training Ukrainian pilots, and President Biden told me that they will work on this … I believe that the United States will allow us to protect our skies,” Zelensky said.
A journalist asked him if the President thought that the provision of Western aircraft would change the course of events in the war. Zelensky assured: “Yes, we believe in it.”
Zelenskiy recalled a discussion he had with Biden about planes . He noted that the US leader and his aides believe that we “do not need” the planes.
And I said: “No, we need these fighters,” Zelensky stressed.
According to the head of state, Ukraine needs fighter jets immediately. They will help us protect ourselves from Russian attacks. Therefore, we expect the partners not to delay in their transfer.
USA evaluates Ukrainian pilots
- So far, it is known that the United States is testing the skills of two Ukrainian pilots. In the US, they are trying to understand how long it will take for the Ukrainians to master the F-16 fighter jets.
- This was confirmed by the representative of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuri Ignat on March 6. He noted that two experienced Ukrainian pilots are getting acquainted in the United States with American specialists. One of the American officials added that our defenders are in Tucson, Arizona.
- It should be understood that so far we are not talking about the transfer of American fighters to Ukraine. But the presence of our pilots shows that the US has not completely closed the door to providing us with the F-16.
