Fields flooded due to hurricane in Kharkiv region: sunflower and winter wheat crops destroyed/”Public”
Recently, a strong hurricane passed in the Kharkiv region. As a result of a heavy downpour, an embankment dam was destroyed in the Alekseevskaya rural community, and the fields were flooded.
The dam is located between Verkhny Byshkin and Alekseevka. This was announced to journalists by the chairman of the rural society, Anatoly Strakhov.
Fortunately, there are no injured among the population. But the damage to the crop is yet to be calculated.
Water from the dam on foot into the river, everything flooded
We're counting the damage. There was a hurricane and a heavy downpour, the dam on the ponds exploded, then this water went into the Bereka River. It destroyed the bulk dam, which was backfilled there after the bridge was blown up. Now Ukravtodor is counting, because this is their property. Significant damage was caused to the owner of the reservoir, Strakhov said.
In addition, as a result of rainfall and the destruction of the dam, the surrounding fields were flooded and crops of sunflower and winter wheat were destroyed.
Problems with the supply are expected in Ukraine some products
Currently, domestic production in Ukraine exceeds consumption, so there is no expected food shortage in Ukraine. However, the temporary occupation of the south of Ukraine and the propensity of the population to stock up may lead to certain problems. In particular, the occupied Kherson part of the Zaporozhye region specializes in the industrial cultivation of:
- cherries,
- peppers,
- onions,
- eggplant,
- melons,
- watermelons.
But it is worth noting that the lack of these products can be covered with the help of import supplies by our partners and the flow of crops to other territories of Ukraine. But the farmers of Kherson and Zaporozhye, unfortunately, have a different problem. Since they do not have the opportunity to sell products in previous volumes, their labor literally rots by the ton. In order to somehow save the situation, they sell their products to the townspeople for next to nothing.
There may be a shortage of buckwheat
Ukrainians are very fond of buckwheat and prepare about 140,000 tons of buckwheat per year. In our country, only half of this amount is grown. The rest we imported from Russia.
The beginning of a full-scale invasion has affected supplies and soon buckwheat may become scarce, and prices for cereals may become sky-high. If earlier buckwheat could be purchased at any store, now it is not everywhere. And the prices of cereals are gradually rising. The situation may worsen due to the excessive demand from the population, which is associated with the desire to stock up on food during martial law.
