Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was taken from the hospital back to Bratislava on May 30. The head of the Slovak government will continue his treatment at home.

What is known about the assassination attempt on Fico

• In the city of Gandlov on May 15 during a visiting meeting of the Slovak government, at which Prime Minister Fico was present and shots were fired. One of the crowd called the Prime Minister to him, urging him to approach, after which the latter was shot dead. The wounded politician was taken to the nearest hospital in Banska Bystrica, and was reported to be conscious after the incident.
• Having quickly responded to the incident, Slovak law enforcement officers quickly detained the attacker, who turned out to be 71-year-old Juraj Tsintula. The man stated that his actions were motivated by disagreement with government policy. Investigators are now looking for potential accomplices, since after the attack his pages on social networks were suddenly deleted and his correspondence disappeared.
• Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky condemned the assassination attempt on the Slovak Prime Minister. Every effort should be made to ensure that violence does not become the norm in any country, form or sphere, he said. The leader of the country wished Fico a speedy recovery and expressed solidarity with the people of Slovakia.
