Linguist and former people's deputy Irina Farion extradited a pro-Ukrainian student in temporarily occupied Crimea to the Federal Service of the Russian Federation.

New scandal with Farion

In her Telegram channel, she published a letter from student Maxim, in which he wrote that he was waiting for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in his hometown of Kerch and Sevastopol, where he was studying at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology.

The guy wrote that he allegedly did not want to hear the “language of occupation” from Ukrainian soldiers, and thanked Farion for her position in the context of the recent language scandal that she provoked.

The occupiers exposed the young man, because Farion did not hide his first and last name in the screenshot of the letter.

Later, the ex-people’s deputy ignored the users’ request to hide the student’s data. She probably knew she was putting him in danger.

– Don't give advice when you're not asked. Do I have a hidden last name? Why did you hide yours? Block? — Farion answered.

Lubinets' reaction

Upon the disclosure of confidential information, Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets contacted the Security Service of Ukraine for an appropriate response. He asks to properly analyze Farion’s actions and give a legal assessment.

Lubinets noted that personal data in war conditions is not an abstraction, but the protection of life and freedom. According to him, the ex-people's deputy should have known about the importance of protecting personal data.

“However, this person publicly provided the guy’s last name, first name, and place of study, which allowed the Russians to identify this student. In addition, it is no secret that the occupation administration in Crimea is putting pressure on people who hold pro-Ukrainian views. Human rights activists and the media also report this,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.

Lubinets added that this did not stop Farion, under martial law, from disclosing the guy’s personal data, which could have consequences. He noted that the ex-people’s deputy “on the one hand, committed a criminal offense, on the other hand, she played along with the occupiers.
