Ukraine provides several types of leave for military personnel.
Annual main leave can last 30 days. In addition, at the request of the military man, it can be divided into two parts, but on the condition that the main part of it will be at least 15 calendar days.

According to lawyer and advocate Rostislav Kravets , the issue of leave for family reasons is regulated by the Law of Ukraine On the Social and Legal Protection of Military Personnel and Members of Their Families.
— The law directly establishes the terms of vacations. The annual main period for the period of martial law can last no more than 30 days. And leave for family reasons or for other valid reasons with preservation of monetary security can last no more than 10 calendar days. Each vacation is provided without taking into account the time required to travel within Ukraine to the vacation destination and back, but no more than two days one way,” says Kravets.
To apply for family leave, you must:
- write a report directly to the unit commander;
- add documents (copies, notarized copies) confirming the circumstances of the need for urgent leave for family reasons. For example, birth or death certificate, medical certificate, etc.
What circumstances give the right to go on family leave during war?
According to the lawyer, the law specifies cases that provide a serviceman with the opportunity to receive leave for family reasons without maintaining monetary security.
So, leave for family reasons without maintaining financial security:
- provided to military personnel for up to 10 calendar days in case of marriage;
- in the event of a serious health condition or death of a wife (husband), father (mother), stepfather (stepmother), son (daughter), stepson (stepdaughter), sibling, father or mother of his wife, or the person with whom the serviceman was stationed parenting, leave is granted for up to seven days (excluding the time required for travel to the place of vacation and back);
- in cases of serious health conditions or death of other relatives and relatives, leave of up to three calendar days is granted;
- in cases of a fire or other natural disaster that befell a family of military personnel or blood relatives, or relatives of the wife (husband) – up to 15 calendar days , excluding the time required to travel to the place of vacation and back;
- if the presence of a serviceman is necessary in the family, leave of up to three days is granted (excluding travel time). Such leave is granted by decision of the commander of a military unit once per calendar year.
By decision of the commander of a military unit, military personnel may be granted leave for family reasons and other valid reasons without maintaining monetary support for a total duration of no more than 15 calendar days per year.
