FAB-500: what is known
According to military expert Alexander Kovalenko, the end of 2023 became the most intensive use of FAB-250 and FAB-500 aerial bombs by Russian occupiers.
Not being able to massively and effectively use aviation missile weapons in the combat zone in Ukraine, Russia switched to the total use of aviation bombs, which, after modification with installed universal flight planning and correction modules (UMPC), were used at a distance of 30 km and more before approaching the battle line.

The ordinary, even old Soviet, FAB-500 aerial bomb was transformed into a long-range weapon with increased accuracy. This allowed Russian aviation to use unlimited supplies of these bombs 24/7 with minimal risks for both pilots and vehicles. It was this factor that not only restrained the advance of the SOU, but also allowed Russian troops to advance more effectively, especially in the Bakhmut area.
