Air quality monitoring in the village of Berezina in the Zhitomir region, where explosions were heard the day before, showed minor deviations from the norm.
This was reported by the head of the Zhytomyr OVO Vitaliy Bunechko.
Air in Berezino: results of measurements after explosions
Specialists from the regional center for disease control and prevention conducted repeated measurements on July 3 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at two points near the site of the emergency.
Now watching
At a distance of 100 meters to the east of the epicenter of the explosion, a slight excess of nitrogen dioxide (0.22 mg/m³ with a norm of 0.2 mg/m³) and a significant excess of sulfur dioxide (1.0 mg/m³ with a norm of 0.5 mg/m³) were recorded. The level of carbon monoxide and ammonia is within the norm.
At a distance of 400 meters to the southeast, only a slight excess of sulfur dioxide was detected (0.6 mg/m³ with a norm of 0.5 mg/m³), the other indicators remain normal.
— The increased level of sulfur in the air in Berezina is associated with fires after explosions. Since the fires have already been extinguished by the State Emergency Service, the situation should improve in the near future, — Bunechko noted.
Let us recall that the city council reported that the explosion occurred at a gas station outside the Zhitomir ring road on the highway towards Kyiv – near the settlement of Berezina.
