According to the prosecutor's office, in the pre-trial detention center and when transporting Gumenyuk to court, the defendants violated the rules of escort: they did not search him and did not check his things.

The Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv found the officer and sergeant of the National Guard guilty of violating the statutory rules of hourly service or patrol, which resulted in grave consequences (Part 3 of Article 418 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The court took into account the National Guardsmen's admission of guilt, cooperation in the investigation and sincere repentance.

The head of the judicial guard was sentenced to arrest for a period of 6 months, and his assistant – to a term of 2 months to serve the sentence in a guardhouse.

Details of the explosion in the Shevchenko district court

As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, after the court hearing, Igor Gumenyuk locked himself in the toilet, and then opened the door and threw an explosive device towards the guard.

He tried to escape, but law enforcement officers fired into the air to stop him. After that, Gumenyuk locked himself in a separate room and detonated the explosives again.

Then two KORD soldiers who stormed the premises were injured.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that Igor Gumenyuk himself blew himself up and died.

The State Bureau of Investigation reported that he had been preparing his escape from custody for a long time. He received explosives from accomplices under the guise of medicine. Gumenyuk used it to make improvised explosive devices using a makeshift method.

Because of the explosion in court, five law enforcement officers received suspicion: three employees of the Kyiv pre-trial detention center and two servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine.
