US President Joe Biden can significantly influence the war in Ukraine before his official term ends.

In particular, he has powers until January 20, 2025, when his successor Donald Trump will have his inauguration ceremony.

So what can Biden do for Ukraine in the next two months? Voice of America journalists asked experts a question.

Allowing Ukraine to Launch Long-Range Strikes against Russia

One of the key decisions that the Biden administration has failed to make regarding Ukraine.

The White House explained this by the reluctance to escalate, the inappropriateness of such strikes, and the lack of appropriate weapons.

However, now, according to former US Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor, Biden has no such constraints, especially given the involvement of North Korean troops in the war.

— This is a direct escalation, so President Biden can justify for himself and the political community a change in policy to allow the Ukrainians to use weapons to strike deep into Russia against military targets, including military targets among the North Korean army, the diplomat said.

Utilization of the remainder of funds allocated to Ukraine by Congress

There is still $6 billion left from the largest package allocated to Ukraine by the US Congress this spring.

— I hope that the Biden administration will make sure that all the money allocated by Congress is spent by January 19, 2025, make sure that all the money is put into action, — another former US Ambassador to Ukraine, Steven Pifer, said.

Transfer of frozen Russian assets to Kyiv

Pifer also noted that the Joe Biden administration may still have time to lobby for the transfer of all frozen Russian assets that its allies in Europe have.

— I think this would help compensate for some of the aid or some of the funding that could be lost if the new President Trump stops helping Ukraine, — the American ambassador summed up.
