In the first half, Spain had both a territorial advantage and created more chances. Luis de la Fuente's men had four shots on target, while the current Euro champions had zero shots in their stats.
After the break, the situation on the field did not change dramatically, but in the 55th minute the Spaniards took the lead. Alvaro Morata tried to close the shot from the flank, but in the end the ball from the Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori flew into the net of the Squadra Azzurra goal.
After the goal, Spain tried to secure a comfortable advantage, but the Italians were saved by the goalpost and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. In the second half, Luciano Spalletti's men still managed to hit the target once, but did not create any particular problems for the opponent.
In Group B, Croatia and Albania also play. Spain will play their next game against Albania, and Italy will play Croatia. Both matches will take place on June 24.
