Finland has begun construction on the eastern border bordering Russia. All work is expected to be completed by early summer.
The construction of the fence on the border with Russia began with earthworks. On February 27, trees were uprooted on both sides of the Imatra border crossing.
What will be the border of Finland with Russia
In the Imatra region, a three-kilometer test section will first be built. A road for border patrols and repair work will also be built near the fence. Lighting and speakers will be installed in some areas. Work should be completed by the end of June.
However, in some places the fence on the eastern border will also pass through private land, so the authorities have yet to negotiate with landowners.
In the coming years, Russia will be completely delimited by the border
In the next few years, Finland will erect about 200 kilometers of barriers along the eastern border. The aim of the project is to make it more difficult for “unwanted guests” from Russia to cross the border.
Note that on the border with Russia and Belarus, Poland installs anti-tank hedgehogs. The Poles also plan to build an electronic fence on the border with Russia. The Polish government is making every effort to ensure national security and protect its borders from any possible threats.
