Everyone chooses the winners: can Lukashenka be a mediator between Russia and China

by alex

Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko travels to China to meet with Xi Jinping. ISW analysts suggest that there he may ask Beijing to supply weapons for Russia.

But Lukashenka is unlikely to be able to do anything to strengthen his ally Russia. This opinion was expressed by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to China in 1999-2001, Ihor Lytvyn, on Channel 24 .

Lukashenka as an intermediary between China and Moscow

It will be especially difficult for the Belarusian dictator now, when the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already shown the world that it is impossible to defeat Ukraine.

And since it is impossible to win, everyone chooses the winners. And the winners in this war, I think, are already known to everyone – this is Ukraine, – Igor Lytvyn said.

In his opinion, Alexander Lukashenko cannot act as an intermediary between Russia and China, given the level of relations between these two states.

“We can assume the active work of the Russian ambassador in Beijing. We can assume a trip to Beijing again by some Medvedev or someone else,” the Ukrainian diplomat explains.

But Lukashenka is going to China to negotiate for himself certain conditions for further cooperation with China. After all, the Belarusian dictator is now an ally of that side in the war, which is definitely losing.

Lukashenka's visit to China

  • Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko is going to Beijing, where he wants to meet with Xi Jinping. During the visit, scheduled for February 28-March 2, the Belarusian dictator plans to “build relations” with China.
  • ISW analysts admit that during this trip, Alexander Lukashenko plans to help Russia and China circumvent Western sanctions through the arms trade.
  • By the way, in addition to Lukashenka, French President Emmanuel Macron also gathered in Beijing. He plans to convince Xi Jinping to put pressure on Russia.
  • At the same time, on the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would like to meet with Xi Jinping. Beijing has already responded to such a proposal by the Ukrainian president.
