Even more effective than Russian ones: what is the threat from Iranian ballistic missiles

Russia could receive a large batch of ballistic missiles from Iran. They are different from Russian modifications and can pose a greater danger to Ukraine.

All because it may be more difficult to shoot down Iranian missiles. More details about the missiles from Iran that Russia received, 24 Channel was told by military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko.

What is special about ballistics from Iran

They started talking about the supply of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia since October last year. At the same time, there were no facts of the use of these weapons on the territory of Ukraine. The same cannot be said about, for example, North Korean ballistics, with which Russia has already attacked Ukraine several times.

However, Reuters reported that Tehran did transfer to Moscow about 400 Fateh-110 ballistic missiles, in particular Zolfaghar.

These missiles are different from Russian modifications, so they need their own launchers and their own operators. It is possible that there could be 400 of them, because the Fateh-110 is an actual variation of the Zelzal missiles created in the 90s. Their number could have been accumulated, noted Alexander Kovalenko.

Zolfaghar missiles are newer. They were fully introduced in 2017, when Iranian proxies used this missile in Syria.

“This was the result of a rapprochement between Russia and Iran, so it is possible that Zolfaghar is a missile , which was also created using Russian technologies. They quickly made it possible to double the range of destruction of targets,” the military observer emphasized.

If previously Iran had missiles that could hit a target at a range of 300 – 350 kilometers, then Zolfaghar has a flight range of almost 700 kilometers. This missile even differs from Russian modifications, because the warhead is separated from the upper stage, which theoretically makes the process of intercepting it much more difficult.

“This can testify that Russia and Iran have been cooperating on the issue of missile technology since 2014. Just when sanctions began to be imposed against Russia and it also began to get closer to North Korea,” Kovalenko noted.

These rogue countries began producing better missiles at about the same time, so we can assume that this happened not without Russian intervention.

Russia uses missiles from the DPRK: what is known

  • At the beginning of this year, the White House reported that Russia had received from North Korea KN-23 ballistic missiles. Moreover, the United States noted that these missiles had already been launched at Ukraine during a massive attack on January 4. The Office of the Prosecutor General stated on February 16 that Russia used at least 24 North Korean missiles in 7 regions of Ukraine.
  • The Security Service of Ukraine also found confirmation of the facts of the use of missiles from the DPRK, publishing the corresponding photo. It has been established that the Russians fired these missiles at civilian infrastructure, killing at least 24 civilians and seriously injuring more than 100 others.
  • It is worth noting that in the missiles, which North Korea transferred to Russia, found parts from American and European companies. Moreover, a considerable number of components from the West were found.
