It should be noted that the German Chancellor made such a statement immediately after returning from China, where he was on a working visit on April 14-17.
The German Chancellor claims that China has openly expressed its readiness to participate in the diplomatic process to end the war in Ukraine and positively assessed the holding of the Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16.
– This result cannot be underestimated. This is more than could have been expected three or six months ago,” noted Olaf Scholz.
At the same time, the German Chancellor did not rule out that the war in Ukraine could continue for several more years, and assured that Berlin will continue to provide military assistance to Kyiv.
Olav Scholz did not discount the possibility of telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but added that for this it should be clear what exactly the parties will talk about.
Recall that even during his stay in China, Olaf Scholz reported that he asked the head of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to influence Russia so that “Vladimir Putin would finally stop his crazy campaign, withdraw his troops and stopped this terrible war”.
The full-scale war in Ukraine has been going on for the 787th day.
