Europe takes mistakes into account: what is signaled by the withdrawal of the Italian SAMP/T from Slovakia

Italy will withdraw from Slovakia the SAMP/T air defense system, which it leased to it. But now European leaders are actively considering what resources they can mobilize to help Ukraine. This is happening against the backdrop of a crisis in the US Congress.

This is the opinion Channel 24 was expressed by the head of the Vezha analytical center, Valery Klochok, noting that Italy understands that air defense must be transferred specifically to the Ukrainian state. They say that Europe understands that it must defend itself in Ukraine. By the way, the Prime Minister of Slovakia stated that as a result of Italy’s decision, the country’s strategic facilities will be under threat.

“For them now it is more important to really transfer more weapons to Ukraine. And they are even talking about sending a military contingent here in order to deter Russian aggression far from their borders,” Klochok said.

The Union after the war

Now in Europe there is talk of creating a certain defense union parallel to NATO or within its structure. Ukraine may also enter there. Such an initiative was discussed even before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, there is a serious problem in organizing such a bloc.

“This is logistics, this is also the signing of the corresponding charter according to which such an alliance can operate. This is most likely a peacetime story that will be worth returning to after the war is over,” added the head of the Vezha analytical center.

Working on mistakes

European politicians taking mistakes into account, which their predecessors allowed during the Second World War. There was no understanding of the threats that existed then. Therefore, the countries did not create corresponding unions.

Even at the end of the 19th century, there was talk about the creation of the Baltic-Black Sea Union before The First World War. He would have to protect the Baltic and Eastern European countries from a possible Russian imperial threat and from a threat from Germany. They didn't do it then. However, the question is still relevant.

Now, Valery Klochok is convinced, we can talk about creating such a union. However, it is quite difficult not to create military leadership structures that will be parallel to the North Atlantic Alliance.

It is within its framework that the mobilization of all resources in Europe is now taking place. Therefore, the air defense system, which is now being confiscated in Slovakia, is precisely the mobilization of all resources, says the head of the Tower analytical center.

European countries support Ukraine with weapons

• France will order 100 UAVs for Ukraine. The drones will arrive in the summer of 2024. The drones will be ordered from Delair.
• The Netherlands has already ordered 9 of the latest self-propelled artillery units for the Ukrainian army. We are talking about DITA caliber 155 millimeters. The weapons are supplied by weapons manufacturers in the Czech Republic. Details of the order are not disclosed.
• The President of the Czech Republic said that he had found 800 thousand shells for Ukraine. The Director General for Defense Policy of the Czech Ministry of Defense noted that the first batch of 155-caliber ammunition could arrive in Ukraine in the coming weeks.
