The European Parliament proposed to freeze the European accounts of the defendants in the anti-corruption investigations of Alexei Navalny. The draft resolution is being prepared for consideration by European parliamentarians, TASS reports.
According to the document, the European Parliament insists on the adoption of extensive sanctions against Russia and the strengthening of existing restrictions in connection with what happened with Navalny. European deputies note the need to collect information about corrupt individuals involved in the Anti-Corruption Fund investigations and freeze their assets. The parliamentarians call on Russia to immediately begin an independent international investigation into the incident with Navalny.
Earlier, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, said that Russia was receiving hints from the union’s representatives that the situation around Navalny would have a negative impact on bilateral relations in the future. He said that rather powerful signals from the European Union are being sent to Russia that the incident with Navalny will inevitably affect the entire range of relations in one way or another. Chizhov added that Russia is not abandoning the investigation into the Navalny case.
On September 2, the German government said that military toxicologists had found traces of a substance from the Novichok group in Navalny's body, and called on the Russian government to respond to this information. Russian doctors say that no poisons were found in the patient's analyzes. On September 10, it became known that Navalny had completely recovered. On September 14, he was disconnected from the artificial lung ventilation (ALV) apparatus, and the Russian was able to get out of the hospital bed.
