Polish carriers continue to blockade the border with Ukraine. Meanwhile, Germany is intensively checking Polish trucks on the border with Poland. But now we can say that this is the country’s response to the actions of the Poles against Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed to Channel 24 by the chief consultant of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, Ivan Us. It should be noted that in October Germany introduced border controls on the borders with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

“We see Germany’s response. Now Germany has an argument. If in the first days from the beginning of November one could say that this is a definite German initiative. But now the Germans can say: “So this is a response to actions against Ukraine,” Us is convinced.

Poles are wary of other EU partners. Therefore, they understand that it is easier for them to blockade Ukraine. At the same time, it should be understood that this is not the position of the entire country , but only of a separate layer of Polish society. They say that it is not worth transferring the protest sentiments of carriers to the whole of Poland.

“I hope that these dialogues are already underway to the Polish society, that ‘let’s also put pressure on your carriers,’” added the chief consultant of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.

“Hostage situation”

Speaking about the dispute between Ukraine and Poland over the import of Ukrainian grain, Us noted that there are questions for Polish resellers. They said that they would sell Ukrainian grain in other countries, but then decided to do it in Poland.

Many problems have arisen in all EU countries neighboring Ukraine. They ultimately led to these problems arising in Ukraine. That is, we have become hostages of the internal processes of each of these countries,” said the chief consultant of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.

Ivan Us noted that the actions of Polish carriers undermine the interests of not only the European Union, but also Poland itself. In his opinion, local authorities should explain this to them.

Poles are blocking the border with Ukraine: the main thing

• Polish carriers are blocking the crossing points of the Polish-Ukrainian border. The protest has been ongoing since November 6. In response to this, Ukrainian drivers staged protests in Polish cities.
• The Poles want the “transport visa-free regime” to be abolished for Ukraine. According to it, it is not necessary to obtain mandatory permits for bilateral and transit transport to the countries of the European Union.
• Now Ukraine and Poland are working on the conditions for unblocking the border. Protesters are blocking truck traffic in 4 directions. As of the morning of December 3, more than 2,500 trucks are awaiting passage to Ukraine.
