The European Parliament (EP) has announced the Coordination Council of the Belarusian Opposition as a temporary representative of the people of the republic. This is stated in the corresponding resolution adopted at the end of the plenary session of the European Parliament and published on the organization's website.
Thus, members of the EP welcomed the “Coordination Council as a temporary representation of people demanding democratic changes in Belarus, open to all interested political and social parties.”
In addition, Europe refused to recognize Alexander Lukashenko as president after the expiration of his current term of office and called on the Council of the European Union “to immediately impose broad and effective sanctions against all Belarusian persons guilty of electoral fraud, violence and repression in Belarus; to study the possibility of including in it Russian citizens who are directly involved in supporting the Lukashenka regime in Belarus ”.
