The European Council decided to provide Ukraine with the fifth tranche of military assistance. The size of the next tranche will be 500 million Euro. Thus, the total amount of assistance is already 2.5 billion euros.

“The EU remains focused and unwavering in its support for Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and independence. Ukraine needs more weapons – we will provide them. In this context, the EU member states agreed to mobilize the fifth tranche of military assistance in the amount of 500 million euros, which amounts to a total 2.5 billion euros of military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” said High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

The previous four tranches were announced on February 28, March 23, April 13 and May 23.

Where the money will go

According to the current priorities expressed by the Ukrainian government, 490 million euros will be spent on lethal military equipment. Another 10 million euros for equipment and consumables, such as personal protective equipment, first aid kits and fuel.

The EU will continue to help Ukraine

The EU once again reminded that they firmly support Ukraine and will continue to provide strong support for the overall economic, military, social and financial stability of Ukraine, including humanitarian assistance.

“The EU strongly condemns Russia's indiscriminate attacks on the civilian population and civilian infrastructure and calls on Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw all of its troops and military equipment from all of Ukraine's territory within its internationally recognized borders. “Ukrainians, especially children who have been forcibly taken to Russia, must be immediately allowed to return safely. Russia, Belarus and all those responsible for war crimes and other serious crimes will be held accountable for their actions in accordance with international law,” the EU statement says.

In its conclusions of June 23-24, 2022 The European Council stressed that the EU remains firmly committed to providing further military support to help Ukraine exercise its inalienable right to self-defense against Russian aggression and defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
