EU ministers will discuss strengthening Ukraine's military potential – Borrell

The foreign ministers of the European Union countries will soon discuss strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities.

This was announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

He noticed that Russian troops recently carried out the largest missile attack on Ukrainian cities in the last two months.

In this regard, Borrell noted the need to “strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including air defense systems”.

– “At the next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union, we will discuss the EU’s security commitments, as well as proposals to increase our contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s military potential,” Borrell emphasized.

According to the EU Council website, the next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers is scheduled for December 11 in Brussels. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba is expected to attend the event.

Safety guarantees from the EU

Recently, representatives of the European External Action Service came to Kyiv for consultations. They discussed a package of security guarantees for Ukraine.

It provides for nine security commitments on the part of the EU. We are talking about helping with weapons; training of Ukrainian military; cooperation with the defense industry of Ukraine; countering cyber and hybrid threats; assistance in mine clearance; intelligence sharing; implementation of reforms on the way to the EU.

The list also includes support for nuclear security efforts and strengthening the ability to control weapons stockpiles.
