The European Union’s decision to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in December is “under threat,” and there is also no agreement in the bloc on the issue of providing Kyiv with another €50 billion in aid.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to a European official who is participating in the preparations for the summit of leaders of the 27 EU member states, which will take place on December 14-15 in Brussels.
One of the reasons he cited is Hungary's position, which potentially prevents the achievement of the unanimity necessary for such a step.

According to him, some EU leaders proposed returning to this topic in March 2024, after the next assessment of the European Commission on Ukraine’s fulfillment of the remaining conditions.
“We cannot allow Ukraine to go bankrupt; this is not an option for us.” But it’s not easy,” he emphasized.
On November 8, EC President Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Commission recommends starting negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union.
According to her, during her last visit to Kyiv, she was convinced that Ukraine had completed 90% of the appropriate steps to join the EU.
