The EU agreed to urgently begin work on ensuring gas supplies to all member states. We also agreed on a joint purchase of gas.

The common procurement platform will also be open to the countries of the Western Balkans and three associated Eastern partners: Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. The decision was the result of a summit of EU leaders that lasted March 24-25.

EU member states agreed to cooperate for a voluntary joint purchase of gas, LNG and hydrogen.

What we have adopted today is a political choice built on a voluntary basis, because these are not government contracts. These contracts are signed not by the government, but by companies,” says Emanuel Macron.

The concept of joint procurement first appeared in the EU a few years ago.
