EU member states resolutely declared that the war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine grossly violates international law and leads to mass casualties among the civilian population.
In this regard, the European Council demands that the Russian Federation stop the war.
—Russia is shelling the civilian population and hitting civilian targets, including hospitals, schools, and shelters. These war crimes must stop immediately. Perpetrators and their accomplices will be held accountable under international law, European Council report says.
The EU emphasizes that the siege of Mariupol and other cities of Ukraine, as well as the obstruction of humanitarian assistance by the Russian armed forces, are unacceptable. Russia must immediately secure corridors for humanitarian supplies.
— The European Council calls on Russia to urgently guarantee the safe passage of civilians trapped in all war zones to a destination of their choice immediately release all hostages, ensure uninterrupted humanitarian access and establish humanitarian corridors,” the statement says.
The Russian Federation is also required to fully comply with its obligations under international law and comply with the recent ruling of the International Court of Justice.
The Council of Europe demands that Russia immediately stop its military aggression on the territory of Ukraine, immediately and unconditionally withdraw all forces and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine and fully respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine in its internationally recognized borders.
The EU stressed that they fully support Ukraine and its people.
