The leaders of the EU member states, one way or another, will provide Ukraine with €50 billion. This will not be prevented by a veto from Hungary.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba spoke about this in an interview with the host of the Unified News telethon Vadym Karpyak.
The minister said that the decision on €50 billion for Ukraine was postponed to the beginning of 2024 not because of the position of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, but because of the desire to come to an agreement with official Budapest and find a common solution on this step . As Kuleba said, “the EU does not want a situation where decisions are constantly made without one country”.

— There will be a decision that Ukraine will receive this money. The only question left is: will 27 countries do this together — all EU members including Hungary, and Hungary were given a month to conduct additional negotiations, — or this money will be allocated by 26 countries of the European Union without Hungary, — he explained.
The Foreign Minister added that the European Union has a question about the unity of the bloc, where 26 out of 27 countries are trying to find a common language to support Ukraine. However, if this does not happen, “the money will still be allocated”.
EU financial assistance
The EU initiative to allocate €50 billion to Ukraine was proposed last year. It was assumed that Ukraine would receive funds within five years.
For the EU to implement this plan, there must be approval from all member countries. However, during the consideration of this issue at the European Council summit, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban vetoed it.
At the same time, President of the European Council Charles Michel assured that this issue will be discussed again by EU member states on February 1, 2024.
