Russian airlines were banned from flying to the EU/getty images
Restrictions also apply to the largest airlines
The list also includes Russia's largest airlines – Aeroflot, Rossiya, Pobeda, Utair and S7. Now these companies are banned from flying within the European Union, “because they do not meet international safety standards.
The airlines do not have a valid airworthiness certificate
The regulator stressed that the decision reflects “serious concerns about about security due to Russia's forced re-registration of aircraft owned by foreign owners.”
EU Transport Commissioner Adin Valean noted that Russia's federal air transport agency allowed Russian airlines to operate hundreds of foreign aircraft without a valid airworthiness certificate.< /p>
Restrictions are not sanctions
Since the Russian airlines knowingly agreed and did this in violation of relevant international safety standards, this could not be ignored.
This not only violates the Convention on International Civil Aviation, but also poses an immediate threat without danger. We live in conditions of Russia's unjustified military aggression against Ukraine. But I want to make it clear that this decision is not another sanction against Russia, it was taken solely for technical security reasons, the EU noted.
