The EU assessed the possibility of a nuclear war after permission to strike Russia with ATACMS Yaroslav Pogonchuk

EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell has rejected the possibility of a link between the US allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles to strike Russia and the threat of nuclear war. He stressed that this decision is limited.

Channel 24 reports, citing Josep Borrell at a press conference following the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. He also noted that Ukraine has the right to defend itself from attacks, even if they come from Russian territory.

How the EU commented on the US permission for long-range strikes against Ukraine

Borrell answered the question of whether permission for Ukraine to use long-range American missiles could cause a nuclear war.

I don't see a connection between President Joe Biden's decision and a hypothetical nuclear war. I said it was irresponsible to talk about using the threat of nuclear weapons,” he replied.

He stressed that Biden’s permission to strike within 300 kilometers of the Russian border was “very limited,” and that now we are only talking about the use of conventional weapons.

“And it looks like today the Russians reported that this permission was used, and there are already the first consequences of this American decision,” Borrell added.

According to him, the United States is sending an important signal by allowing strikes only within a limited range – 300 kilometers, which is “not deep enough inside Russian territory.”

“This is what the Ukrainians are talking about have been asking for a long time. And I particularly supported this request because I think, firstly, it is in line with international law, and because Ukrainians should be able to respond to Russian attacks, even if they come from Russian territory,” Borrell noted.
