European Union Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova said that Kyiv is ready to begin negotiations on accession to the EU.
She reported this in an interview with Ukrainian radio.
— I really hope that at the end of Junewe will begin negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. The political signal was sent back in December last year. Ukraine is on the right track, it is ready for negotiations, — said Maternova.
At the same time, this does not mean that there are no reforms left that need to be continued.

— Obviously, they are needed, but they can be continued during the accession negotiations. Therefore, I cannot guarantee, but I can say that I really hope that negotiations will begin in June, — added Madam Ambassador.
Maternova also emphasized that the main factor that influences any stage of the accession process is the need for unanimity among member countries. That is, no matter how insignificant the interests of individual member countries may seem, they matter.
Can the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council negatively affect the negotiations
From July 1 until the end of 2024, Hungary will preside over the Council of Europe. However, according to Maternova, this probably will not interfere with Ukraine's plans. This is due to the fact that the country that presides must “play the role of an honest mediator”.
— In other words, this is not a case of promoting your government or national priorities. You should chair meetings but facilitate consensus among others, — she emphasized.
Earlier, the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Katarina Maternova stated that our state could become a full member of the EU before 2030.
