Today (March 8 – Channel 24) EU ambassadors approved an additional 2 billion euros for the European Peace Fund. This decision sends a clear signal of the EU's continued commitment to military support for Ukraine and other partners.

Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak said that this is an additional 2 billion to the fund from which military supplies to Ukraine are financed.

Note! The European Peace Fund is funded by contributions from EU member states. It was created by the European Council in March 2021 to finance all measures of the common foreign and security policy (CFSP) related to military and defense issues in order to prevent conflicts, maintain peace and strengthen international security and stability. The fund allows you to transfer money to non-EU countries, as well as regional and international organizations on military and defense issues.

EU ambassadors discuss aid to Ukraine

It should be noted that an informal meeting of EU defense ministers is being held in Stockholm on March 8. In front of her, the high representative of the EU noted that this meeting is very important. After all, it should consider how to support Ukraine.

Josep Borrell suggested how to help Ukraine with ammunition. His proposal contains three options:

  • the first is to provide ammunition quickly from existing stocks. Then it's about weeks. According to Borrell: “So we must use what we already have. What the European armies already have in their warehouses and what they have already ordered from industry”;
  • the second is to decide on a joint order of ammunition, to determine the circle of countries ready to participate in such an order in order to replenish their own stocks and transfer part of this order to Ukraine in the medium term;
  • the third is to increase the capabilities of our defense industry.

It should be noted that the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov also takes part in the meeting.
