EU Accession Talks: European Commission Does Not Insist on Separation of Ukraine and Moldova

by alex

The European Commission will not insist on separating the negotiations between Ukraine and Moldova on EU accession – this decision must be made by the EU member states.

This was stated by the speaker of the European Commission, Guillaume Mercier, at a briefing in Brussels.

The EC supports the overall progress of Ukraine and Moldova on the path to the EU

– When it comes to the separation of Moldova and Ukraine, this decision should really be made by the member states. From our side, it is clear that we support both Moldova and Ukraine in their reform process, – Mercier noted.

He also stressed that the European Commission sees “stable progress” in both countries on the path to EU membership and will continue to provide political, technical and financial support to Ukraine and Moldova.

The speaker added that the European Commission will work with member states to ensure that they take positive decisions on opening the first cluster of negotiations on the accession of both countries to the European Union.

Let us recall that Viktor Orban announced the results of the so-called Voks2025 poll on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Allegedly, 2 million 278 thousand citizens took part in the vote. According to the results of the Voks2025 vote, 2 million 168 thousand (95%) spoke out against Ukraine's accession to the EU, and 5% supported Ukraine's path.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that Ukraine's accession to the EU would negatively affect Hungary's interests, in particular, it would allegedly lead to the country's bankruptcy.
