Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine is a tragedy in the very center of Europe. According to him, the fighting is a warning for the EU.

The Turkish President noted that now the continent needs solidarity and cooperation, and most importantly, a courageous and conceptual position. He announced this while speaking on the occasion of Europe Day.

Today, Turkey is not only a candidate country and a member of NATO, but also a strong and significant partner, which makes a significant contribution to preventing challenges on the continent. Recep Erdogan said.

The politician spoke about the negative consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian war for the planet. According to him, the main challenges are:

  • security;
  • migration;
  • supply chain;
  • energy

He is convinced that Turkey's accession to the European Union will significantly enhance the security of the association.

Erdogan called on the EU to write a new history

Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the EU to write a new history of its development together with Turkey, noting that in recent years the EU has deviated from its goals, and its leadership allegedly fell under the influence of the short-term interests of individual states.

In addition, the Turkish president reminded on the foundations of the Shulman Declaration:

  • prevention of contradictions and differences in relations between European countries,
  • mutual integration in the integration of the world,
  • promotion of development and stability in Europe.

Moreover, the politician once again spoke about maintaining Turkey's course towards full membership in the European Union and “patient and resolute” movement before joining the union.

Turkey is ready to become a guarantor of Ukraine's security

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey expressed its readiness to become a guarantor of Ukraine's security, but on one condition – that without 5 points, as NATO.

The diplomat explained that the United States, Great Britain and Canada rejected this clause. According to him, sending Turkish soldiers in the event of a conflict in Ukraine is out of the question.
