Emergency measure: Shmygal called on Ukrainians to reduce electricity consumption

by alex

The Cabinet of Ministers and the energy sector called on citizens of Ukraine to reduce electricity consumption due to a shortage of generating capacity in the energy system.

The head of the government of Ukraine Denis Shmygal stated this on December 7.

— Decrease in temperature, emergency repairs, limited operation of solar power plants due to cloudy weather. All this has led to the fact that our energy system is now experiencing a power shortage. Ukrenergo is forced to attract emergency assistance from Europe. This is an emergency measure, and not always guaranteed. Therefore, now the government and energy workers are calling on everyone to reduce electricity consumption. Especially from 9 to 19, — he wrote.

The Prime Minister also called on citizens not to turn on powerful electrical appliances at the same time and to transfer washing to the night hours, turning off the lights in unused rooms.

— Shopping centers, shops, restaurants can reduce the intensity of lighting of signs and display windows. Businesses can reconsider their production process from an energy efficiency perspective. All this will avoid the introduction of shutdown schedules. Responsible consumption of electricity for each of us — this is a light for everyone, — Shmygal emphasized.

He added that now repair crews and power engineers are carrying out restoration work 24/7, and the government is attracting the help of partners to strengthen generation.

Power deficit

Recall that in the evening the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that due to enemy shelling by the Russians, the operation of 2 units of a thermal power plant in the front-line zone was temporarily suspended.

— This afternoon the enemy attacked one of the thermal power plants in the front-line zone. Equipment was seriously damaged as a result of the shelling. Two power units stopped operating, — the message says.

According to the Ministry of Energy, due to this shutdown of thermal units, as well as a decrease in ambient temperature, a temporary shortage of electricity is recorded in the power system.

NEC Ukrenergo published a similar message on Thursday. The National Energy Company reported that as of December 7, a difficult situation had developed in the energy system and, due to cold weather, consumption exceeded the forecast by 2.7%, which is the equivalent of operating two additional thermal power plant units.

According to the company, due to hostilities and other reasons, 408 settlements remain without electricity, and power supply network facilities in the Donetsk, Kharkov and Kherson regions received new damage due to enemy shelling.

Separately, it was reported about the loss of power to consumers in the Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye regions.
