Electricity consumption has grown – Ukrenergo announced a significant shortage

by alex

Ukrenergo told us about the situation with electricity. In particular, on Monday, January 30, consumption increased.

However, the company assured that the increase in light consumption for the beginning of the week is typical. Nevertheless, they said that there is a significant deficit in the energy system of Ukraine.

What is the situation with electricity in Ukraine

The company said that the reason for the shortage of electricity is 13 missile and 15 drone attacks by Russians since October 10, 2022. These strikes damaged high-voltage grid facilities and power plants.

The power grid is still recovering from a previous series of enemy rocket attacks that damaged the power units of power plants. As a result, electricity generation at serviceable power plants cannot fully cover consumption, the company explained.

They also assured that Ukrenergo informed all oblenergos about the limits on light consumption per day. After that, each oblenergo must draw up schedules of planned hourly power outages within these limits.

As of the morning of January 30, emergency shutdowns have not yet been introduced. However, they can be introduced if the limits in the regions are exceeded.

Repairmen continue to repair energy infrastructure

The company explained that as of January 30, the restoration of energy infrastructure facilities damaged during the massive attack on January 26 is underway. In particular:

  • several power units of power plants were taken out for repairs over the weekend;
  • Ukrenergo, electricity producers and oblenergos are constantly restoring damaged facilities hit by enemy attacks;
  • after each next Russian attack on the energy infrastructure, recovery becomes more difficult and takes longer. li> Since October 10, 2022, Russia has been massively attacking Ukrainian critical infrastructure facilities. As of January 30, there were 13 missile attacks and 15 drone strikes. Therefore, stabilization or emergency power outages operate throughout Ukraine.
  • In addition, according to Ukrenergo, the situation is also complicated by the fact that more than 10 gigawatts of the main installed capacity are not available to the Ukrainian energy system. After all, they are in the temporarily occupied territories and they are controlled by the enemy.
  • In particular, we are talking about the largest in Ukraine and Europe Zaporizhzhya NPP, Zaporizhzhya TPP, Lugansk TPP, Uglegorsk TPP, Kakhovskaya HPP. Most of the wind and solar power plants are also located in the occupied territories of the South.
  • The rest of the power plants in Ukraine cover the consumption of light during peak hours in the morning and evening. After all, then the greatest shortage of electricity.
