After the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, another earthquake shook the West of Georgia. However, it was not as powerful as in these countries.

What is known about the earthquake

According to the National Center for Seismic Monitoring, the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.3. And it happened 7 kilometers from Ozurgeti, in the village of Vakijvari.

Foreign media also report that the tremors were recorded at 19:33 Tbilisi time (17:33 Kiev time). The epicenter of the earthquake lay at a depth of 4.96 km.

Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties or damage.

An earthquake is not a phenomenon that can be prevented, but only predicted. Therefore, there is a whole system of measures in an emergency that must be taken into account. They recommend, in particular:

  • Note that these tremors have stirred up more than one state over the past month. The most destructive earthquake was in Turkey and Syria with a magnitude of 7.8. Thus, in these countries, the number of victims as a result of the emergency exceeded 25 thousand people.
  • On February 10, aftershocks of magnitude 4.4 were also recorded on the border between Russia and Kazakhstan. The cell of this earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers.
  • Earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 at a depth of 10 kilometers were also recorded in Kyrgyzstan.
