“Each “series” should be watched separately”: a lawyer on the effectiveness of the anti-corruption marathon in Ukraine

Over the past six months, the fight against corruption schemes has significantly intensified in Ukraine. It gives its positive results.

Elena Shcherban, a lawyer at the Anti-Corruption Action Center, spoke about this Channel 24. Some issues still remain, she says.

How things are going

Elena Shcherban noted from her own work experience that the Anti-Corruption Action Center has been monitoring the work of anti-corruption institutions for a long time. During this time, I managed to observe a lot.

In fact, each episode of this latest series should be considered separately, she explained.

< p dir="ltr">Shcherban said that it is known that if other bodies take up cases that, according to the law, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Union of Business Automators should investigate, this will have negative consequences for them.

” And in the overwhelming majority of cases, they either do not reach the court, or if they reach the court, the courts later indicate that the wrong body was engaged in the actual investigation,” she said.

And as a result, everyone is released from responsibility.

Are there any progress in the fight against corruption

Elena Shcherban explained that other agencies often join in parallel with NABU and SAB just to take away evidence and destroy it. Thus, they do not allow bodies capable of independently investigating such cases to understand what happened.

“In many of these cases and implementations, when it is not NABU and SAB, I have very big doubts about their legal perspectives and the opportunity to see further results,” she focused.

In her opinion, where the work of anti-corruption bodies is mentioned, one can say that a lot of results have indeed been achieved over the past six months.

Many things that have been started have been blocked for a long time, they are now unblocked,” the lawyer said.

She stressed that now there are already many new cases, implementations, serious schemes that had not been reached before.< /p>

“Therefore, there is still reason to talk about activation on this front,” she said.

Shcherban noted that there are issues that should be resolved depending on each individual situation.
