€50 billion for Ukraine from the EU: the European Parliament approved an aid package for 4 years

The European Parliament voted for an aid package for Ukraine in the amount of €50 billion

The decision was made with 536 votes in favor, while 40 MEPs were against, and another 39 — abstained.

The meeting reviewed the EU's long-term budget, the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), which includes a €50 billion Ukraine Fund and a Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP) aimed at supporting competitiveness and sustainability EU in strategic sectors.

The decision of the European Parliament also strengthens the EU budget to solve the problems of migration and external challenges, and also increases the EU’s preparedness for crises and budget flexibility, the press service notes.

It was previously reported that the vote during the plenary session on February 26-29, 2024 should be the final one in the procedure for providing macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine indicated that official Kyiv plans to receive the first first payment in the amount of €4.5 billion in March.
