During the period of the active phase of hostilities in the Chernihiv region, more than 500 locals were killed. More than 1,000 people were wounded by the Russians.
The active phase of Russian aggression in the Chernihiv region continued from the beginning of the war until April. The graves of the killed residents of the region are still being found, so the numbers are not final. This was announced by the head of the Chernigov OVA Vyacheslav Chaus on May 25.
During the active military aggression, we have more than 500 dead and more than 1,000 wounded – mostly residents of Chernihiv and nearby settlements. But they still find the graves of the murdered Ukrainians, who were shot and killed by the Russians,” Chaus said.
The head of the OVA added that certain restrictions were introduced in the Chernihiv region, especially in the border areas. They relate to the movement and stay of citizens. After all, the Russian occupiers changed the territory very much. Now the State Emergency Service is working in the Chernihiv region.
Although the demining of the territory began a long time ago, there is a lot of work left.
Currently, more than 25,000 explosive objects have already been defused in the region. This is a colossal amount. But a lot of work remains. The settlements that were under occupation have already been explored by rescuers. However, the likelihood that mines remained there remains, – the head of the region emphasized.
Vyacheslav Chaus says that it is too early to talk about damage. To assess the scale of destruction, it is necessary to carry out many more examinations and assessments. According to preliminary data, more than 3,700 real estate objects have been damaged or destroyed, of which 3,400 are housing stock.

Vyacheslav Chaus says that the displaced people are still returning home. A third of the population came to Chernigov itself.
