Defense Express reports that the drone that exploded over the Russian city of Kaluga, 150 kilometers from Moscow, was allegedly recycled TU-141 “Swift”.
Yuriy Ignat, Speaker of the Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke about the features of such and similar drones on Channel 24. However, he noted that, as an official representative of the air force, he cannot comment on what happened on the territory of the aggressor country.
UAVs were used as targets
According to him, the TU-141 “Strizh” and TU-143 “Reis” are Soviet-style drones in service with the Ukrainian Air Force.
They were used in particular as targets at ranges in order to train units of our air force, he stressed.
The speaker explained that such training usually took place in the fall – this is due to environmental issues. We had a training ground “Chauda” in the Crimea, but after the occupation of the peninsula, training was transferred to the training ground “Yagorlyk” in the Kherson region.
“These drones were launched there from the Odessa region, and our anti-aircraft gunners from the S-300, BUK M-1, S-125 complexes trained to shoot them down as a real target. In addition, aviation units also trained to shoot them down. Several fighters took part in this ” , – said Ignat.
“Cotton” in the Russian city of Kaluga: watch the video
Thanks to training, we can now shoot down cruise missiles.
He noted that the Reis drone is a copy of the Caliber cruise missile, which is also launched from ships, flies over the sea and tries to attack targets on land.
These were the best moments of the practical application of the SAM, when everything is simulated as in real time. Thanks to such training, our air defense shot down these drones one hundred percent. There are certain trained combat servants of anti-aircraft missile systems who are already doing this in practice, he stressed.
The speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that a cruise missile is a more difficult target than such a drone. It has a somewhat smaller reflective surface, larger technologies are embedded.
“But thanks to these trainings, you see how effectively cruise missiles are shot down today. And not only with Soviet weapons, but also with what our partners provide us”, – he noted.
Yuriy Ignat also added that the day before, the Commander-in-Chief and the Minister of Defense noted the work of our anti-aircraft gunners, who shot down many air targets in the Kiev region with the help of Western weapons.
“Cotton” in Russia: what is known
- On February 4, a “cotton” occurred at a plant in the Belgorod region of Russia, as a result of which a large-scale fire broke out. After the explosion and fire, an indefinite “yellow” terrorist threat level was declared.
- Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War claim that the plant where the incident occurred allegedly produces important metal structures. This event is likely to further disrupt the logistics of the infidels.
