Drones Attack Six Regions in Russia, Airports Suspend Operations: What is Known

In the early morning of July 1, explosions were heard in the cities of Saratov and Engels in the Saratov region of the Russian Federation, and the operation of four Russian airports there was suspended.

17 drones were allegedly destroyed over Crimea, 11 over the waters of the Sea of Azov, and 3 over the waters of the Black Sea.

According to the acting governor of the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, Yuri Slyusar, overnight the air defense allegedly destroyed drones in Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Novoshakhtinsk, Millerovsky, Myasnikovsky, Aksaysky, Neklinovsky and Matveyevo-Kurgansky districts.

He reported that no one was hurt.

For his part, the Governor of the Saratov Region of the Russian Federation Roman Busargin informed “about the UAV threat” and that “all emergency services have been put on full alert.”

Russian airports suspend operations due to drone attack

Saratov airport has suspended operations. Also currently closed are the airports of Ulyanovsk in the Ulyanovsk region of the Russian Federation, Kazan and Nizhnekamsk (Tatarstan).

Near the city of Engels there is a military airfield Engels-2, where Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft of the 22nd heavy bomber aviation division of the Russian Federation are based.

One of the largest Russian oil refineries, Taneko (Tatarstan Oil Refinery Complex), is located in the city of Nizhnekamsk.

Nearby is the city of Yelabuga, where the Alabuga special economic zone operates, where Russian Shahed-type attack drones are assembled.

These settlements are located more than a thousand kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

All the mentioned objects have already been repeatedly attacked by drones.
