In the Russian town of Korkino near Chelyabinsk, spontaneous rallies broke out on the evening of October 24 after the murder of a 40-year-old taxi driver. As a result, several dozen people were detained, and two received gunshot wounds.

A number of Russian media outlets report on the aftermath of the pogroms in Korkino, reports 24 Kanal. According to journalists, local authorities traditionally claim that the situation in the city has allegedly “stabilized” – for this, “more than 500 security forces” were needed.

“Roma pogroms” took place in Russia

Taxi driver Elena Sarafanova was found dead on the morning of October 24. Young people aged 17 and 19 were arrested in connection with the woman's murder. The investigation assumes that Sarafanova was giving them a ride, a conflict broke out between them, and the 17-year-old passenger stabbed her.

That evening, residents of Korkino came to the suspects' houses. People began to break down the fence, throw stones at the house – at that moment, shooting began from the house. Two people were wounded: in the neck and thigh.

In two hours, the number of people on the streets increased: according to police, by 10 p.m., about 200 people had participated in the “rally.”Russian law enforcement agencies reported that more than 40 people had been detained due to the mass unrest in Korkino.

The Investigative Committee also reported that as a result of the riots, the 56-year-old chairman of the Roma diaspora, to whose house the protesters came, was detained. According to investigators, it was he who shot at people with a gun. It is noted that a criminal case was opened under the article “Attempted murder”.
