IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi will head a commission that will visit the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The main purpose of their visit is to intensify assistance to prevent the danger of a nuclear accident.
The trip will take place next week, in particular on April 26th. This became possible after the Russian invaders left the NPP on March 31.
IAEA Director General will arrive at the Chernobyl NPP
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi will lead an expert mission to Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) next week to step up assistance to prevent the danger of a nuclear accident during the current conflict in the country, the report says.
It is known that IAEA specialists will bring the necessary equipment to the station and conduct radiological and other studies of the area.
“The presence of the IAEA in Chernobyl will be of exceptional importance for our activities in support of Ukraine, as it seeks to restore regulatory oversight of the plant and ensure its safe operation,” Grossi said.
The IAEA Director General explained that in a few weeks they would have additional missions to Chernobyl and other nuclear facilities in Ukraine. By the way, in March Grossi came to the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant.
By the way, the invaders seized the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the first day of Russia's full-scale attack on Ukraine, that is, on February 24th. The enemies forbade the rotation of personnel, and they themselves dug trenches in the Red Forest, which was most polluted with radiation. Having received a dose of radiation, the invaders went for treatment.
