Die, Surrender, or Run Away: How Putin Abandoned His Conscripts in Kursk Region Melania Golembyovskaya

More than 2 thousand Russian soldiers surrendered in Kursk region. Most of them are conscripts who were not ready for such a turn of events.

About this 24 Channelsaid Russian oppositionist and political analyst Olga Kurnosova, noting that the operation in Kursk Oblast has not yet become a strong impetus for Russian citizens to act. The longer this continues, the greater the indignation towards Vladimir Putin and the Russian government will be.

How Putin abandoned his conscripts in Kursk Oblast

Kurnosova explained that in Kursk Oblast there were primarily conscripts who were not ready for combat. In addition, they had no support – no heavy weapons, no artillery.

That's why they need to die, surrender, or run, the Russian oppositionist noted.

However, in her opinion, the worst thing is something completely different. Many Russian prisoners said that they thought about blowing themselves up with a grenade, because they had heard horror stories about the possible treatment they would receive in Ukrainian captivity. This is exactly the kind of information that is being spread among the Russian military.

What they actually saw in Ukrainian captivity shocked them. They live better there than in service in Russia, – noted Kurnosova.

According to the Russian oppositionist, the deaths of conscripts in the Kursk region became the impetus for the fact that Russian society somehow “went crazy”. However, the operation in this region still did not become such a global story for Russians as it was during the mobilization or the rebellion of Yevgeny Prigozhin. For now, Kursk is a local story.

I don’t know how much more time will be needed and how much more Ukraine will need to take control of populated areas for the situation to continue to develop. The longer the populated areas are under Ukraine’s control, the more alarmed the Russians will be, the less trust they will have in the government, and the more indignation they will have, – noted Kurnosova.
